Ingredients
Scale
For the Tacos
- 4 flour tortillas (6 inches)
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon neutral oil (vegetable, canola, or avocado)
- 4 slices American cheese (or preferred cheese)
Toppings
- 1 small onion, diced
- Dill pickle chips
- Shredded iceberg lettuce
Instructions
- Prepare the Beef Portions: Divide the ground beef evenly into 4 equal portions to form the bases for each taco patty.
- Season and Spread Meat: Take one portion of beef and spread it evenly over a flour tortilla. Season with salt and pepper to taste to enhance the flavor.
- Heat the Skillet: Place a non-stick skillet on medium-high heat and add the neutral oil, allowing it to heat up, preparing the surface for cooking.
- Cook Meat Side Down: Place the tortilla with spread beef meat-side down onto the hot skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until the beef becomes golden brown and crispy.
- Flip and Add Cheese: Carefully flip the tortilla to the other side, then layer a slice of American cheese on top of the cooked beef. Cook an additional 1-3 minutes until the cheese has melted thoroughly.
- Repeat Cooking: Remove the cooked taco from the skillet and repeat the process with the remaining portions of beef and tortillas.
- Assemble Tacos: Once all tacos are cooked, top each with diced onions, dill pickle chips, and shredded iceberg lettuce. Add any preferred sauce if desired, then serve immediately.
Notes
- You can substitute flour tortillas with corn tortillas if preferred.
- For more flavor, consider adding a special sauce like a spicy mayo or mustard to the taco before assembling.
- Use a spatula to press down slightly on the beef when spreading over the tortilla for a more authentic smashed burger texture.
- Make sure the skillet is hot enough to achieve a crispy crust on the beef.
- Feel free to swap American cheese for cheddar, pepper jack, or your favorite melting cheese.
