  • Author: Sarah
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A delicious and hearty Savory Smash Burger Bowl featuring crispy air-fried red potatoes, caramelized onions, smashed ground beef, melted cheese, and a zesty homemade sauce, all layered in a convenient bowl for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 3 medium Red Potatoes, diced
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil (for tossing potatoes)
  • Salt and Pepper, to taste

Onions

  • 1 cup Onions, diced
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil (for caramelizing)

Beef

  • 1 lb Ground Beef (lean preferred)
  • Salt and Pepper, to taste

Sauce

  • 1/2 cup Mayo
  • 2 tbsp Ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Mustard (Dijon recommended)
  • 1 tbsp Cajun Seasoning

Toppings

  • 1 cup Shredded Cheese (Colby Jack or Pepper Jack)
  • 1/2 cup Pickles, sliced
  • 1 cup Lettuce (any leafy greens)

Instructions

  1. Prep the Base: Dice the red potatoes into bite-sized pieces. Toss them with olive oil, salt, and pepper to coat evenly. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (204°C), then place the potatoes inside and air fry for 16 to 18 minutes, shaking halfway through, until the potatoes are crispy and golden.
  2. Caramelize Onions: While the potatoes cook, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onions and cook for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions turn golden brown and develop a sweet, caramelized flavor.
  3. Cook the Beef: Increase the skillet heat to medium-high and add the ground beef. Smash the beef down with a spatula to create a flat surface and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until fully browned and cooked through. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and Cajun seasoning until smooth and well combined. Taste and adjust the seasoning as desired for creaminess and spice.
  5. Assemble the Bowls: Start by adding the crispy air-fried potatoes to each bowl. Layer on the smashed cooked ground beef, then add the caramelized onions followed by shredded cheese. Drizzle the prepared sauce over the top, then finish with fresh lettuce and pickles for crunch and freshness.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, use lean ground beef and low-sugar ketchup.
  • Substitute red potatoes with brown rice if preferred.
  • Dijon mustard adds a nice tang but yellow mustard can also be used.
  • Adjust Cajun seasoning according to taste preference for spice level.
  • Use any type of leafy greens such as romaine, spinach, or arugula for the lettuce layer.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated in a skillet or microwave.
