Grilled Cheese Burrito Recipe

  • Author: Sarah
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

This Grilled Cheese Burrito recipe combines the savory flavors of seasoned ground beef, melted cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, and creamy sauces all wrapped in a warm flour tortilla. It’s a delicious twist on traditional burritos with a crispy, cheesy grilled exterior, perfect for a satisfying lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Seasoning

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning (or homemade blend)
  • 1/4 cup water

Rice and Sauces

  • 1 cup cooked white rice
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup nacho cheese sauce
  • 1/4 cup chipotle sauce

Cheeses

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Others

  • 4 large flour tortillas
  • Butter or oil for grilling (optional, for skillet greasing)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Beef: Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until fully cooked, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain any excess grease, then add the taco seasoning and 1/4 cup of water. Simmer the mixture for 5 minutes until the flavors meld and the sauce thickens slightly.
  2. Warm the Tortillas: Heat the flour tortillas on a dry skillet or briefly in the microwave until they are soft and flexible. This makes them easier to assemble and fold without tearing.
  3. Assemble the Burrito: Lay a warmed tortilla flat on a clean surface. Spread a layer of cooked white rice, followed by the seasoned ground beef. Evenly add the nacho cheese sauce and chipotle sauce over the beef, then dollop with sour cream. Finally, sprinkle shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses on top.
  4. Grill the Burrito: Heat a clean skillet over medium heat and sprinkle about 2 tablespoons of shredded cheese onto the pan. Place the assembled burrito seam-side down onto the cheese and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until the cheese melts and forms a crispy, golden crust. Carefully flip the burrito and grill the other side similarly until the exterior is crispy and cheesy.

Notes

  • Use homemade taco seasoning to control salt and spice levels if preferred.
  • Warm tortillas well to prevent tearing during assembly.
  • Adding a small amount of butter or oil in the skillet can enhance the crispiness and flavor of the grilled exterior.
  • Serve with salsa, guacamole, or additional sour cream for extra flavor.
  • Leftovers can be reheated in a skillet or oven to maintain crispiness.
