Ingredients
Scale
Brownies
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp coffee extract or 1 tsp instant coffee granules
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
Coffee Frosting
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tbsp instant coffee granules
- 2–4 tbsp heavy whipping cream
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8-inch baking dish with parchment paper or spray with non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
- Melt Butter and Mix Wet Ingredients: Melt the butter in the microwave and transfer it to a large mixing bowl. Stir in the granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until fully combined and smooth.
- Combine Dry Ingredients and Mix Batter: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, salt, and coffee extract or instant coffee. Gradually add these dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until the batter is smooth and well-combined.
- Bake the Brownies: Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely before frosting.
- Prepare Coffee Frosting: Dissolve instant coffee granules in the heavy whipping cream and set aside. In a separate bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter until light and fluffy. Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing well. Slowly add the coffee-infused cream, beating until the frosting reaches a smooth, spreadable consistency.
- Frost and Serve: Spread the prepared coffee frosting generously over the cooled brownies. Slice into squares and enjoy your rich, coffee-flavored dessert.
Notes
- Use espresso powder instead of instant coffee granules for a stronger, deeper coffee flavor.
- Adjust the amount of heavy cream in the frosting to achieve your preferred consistency, starting with 2 tablespoons.
- Optional: fold in chocolate chips or chopped nuts into the brownie batter for added texture and richness.
