  • Author: Sarah
  • Total Time: 22 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

French Dip Tortilla Roll Ups are a creative twist on the classic French dip sandwich, featuring tender roast beef, provolone cheese, and crispy French fried onions wrapped in warm flour tortillas. Baked until golden and served with a flavorful au jus dipping sauce, these roll ups make a perfect appetizer or snack for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Roll Ups

  • 4 large flour tortillas, about 12 inches in diameter
  • 8 slices provolone cheese, thinly sliced
  • 12 ounces deli roast beef, freshly sliced
  • 1 cup French fried onions, store-bought or homemade
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Au Jus Sauce

  • 1 can beef consommé (10.5 ounces)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preparation: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Assemble Roll Ups: Lay a tortilla flat on your clean countertop. Place 2 slices of provolone cheese over half of the tortilla, then add about 3 ounces of freshly sliced roast beef. Sprinkle a generous handful of French fried onions on top for a crunchy texture.
  3. Seal the Roll Ups: Brush the inside edge of the tortilla lightly with olive oil to help it seal properly. Starting from the filled end, roll the tortilla tightly, pressing the oiled edge to seal. Place the roll seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Repeat Assembly: Repeat the rolling process for the remaining tortillas. Brush the tops and sides of each roll with the remaining olive oil to promote browning and crispiness during baking.
  5. Bake: Bake the roll ups for 8–10 minutes, rotating the baking sheet halfway through to ensure even cooking, until the tortillas are golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.
  6. Rest and Slice: Remove from the oven and let the roll ups rest for 2 minutes on a wire rack to firm up. Slice each roll into halves or thirds for easier serving and arrange on a platter.
  7. Prepare Au Jus Sauce: In a small saucepan, combine beef consommé, water, Worcestershire sauce, low sodium soy sauce, onion powder, and garlic powder. Heat over medium heat, whisking to blend well, and bring to a gentle simmer for 3–4 minutes until hot and fragrant.
  8. Serve: Serve the warm French Dip Tortilla Roll Ups immediately with the au jus sauce for dipping, enhancing the savory flavors.

Notes

  • Use freshly sliced roast beef for the best texture and flavor; avoid pre-packaged versions if possible.
  • If you prefer a spicier kick, add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes to the au jus sauce.
  • Ensure tortillas are fresh and pliable to prevent cracking during rolling.
  • French fried onions add crunch; you can make them at home or use store-bought for convenience.
  • Leftovers can be reheated in the oven to maintain crispiness.
