Ingredients
Scale
Cinnamon Rolls
- 2 tubes refrigerated cinnamon rolls (each tube contains 8 cinnamon rolls; total 351 grams or 12 oz)
Custard Mixture
- ¼ cup salted butter (melted)
- ½ cup milk
- ½ cup pure maple syrup
- 3 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Topping
- Frosting from cinnamon roll package (reserved)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray to prevent sticking. Pour the melted butter evenly into the dish, or alternatively, place a stick of butter in the pan and let it melt in the oven.
- Prepare the Cinnamon Rolls: Remove the cinnamon rolls from their packaging carefully, making sure to reserve the included frosting for later use.
- Cut and Arrange Cinnamon Rolls: Cut each cinnamon roll into approximately ¾-inch pieces and evenly distribute them in the prepared baking dish.
- Make the Custard Mixture: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, pure maple syrup, eggs, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until the mixture is smooth and the eggs are fully incorporated.
- Pour Custard over Rolls: Pour the prepared custard mixture evenly over the cinnamon roll pieces in the baking dish, ensuring all pieces absorb some of the liquid.
- Bake the Casserole: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35 to 45 minutes until the casserole is puffed, lightly golden brown, and set in the center.
- Cool and Add Frosting: Allow the casserole to cool for 10 to 15 minutes after baking. Then, drizzle the reserved frosting over the top just before serving to add a rich finishing touch.
Notes
- Using pure maple syrup adds a richer flavor than regular syrup but can be substituted if preferred.
- Letting the casserole cool slightly before adding frosting prevents it from melting off completely.
- This casserole can be prepared the night before by assembling it and refrigerating; bake fresh in the morning.
- For a dairy-free version, substitute milk and butter with dairy alternatives and use cinnamon rolls free from dairy.
