  • Author: Sarah
  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

This Easy Cinnamon Roll Casserole is a delicious, comforting breakfast or brunch dish that combines soft, gooey cinnamon roll pieces baked in a sweet maple egg custard. Topped with the original cinnamon roll frosting, it’s a simple and indulgent recipe perfect for feeding a crowd or a weekend treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Cinnamon Rolls

  • 2 tubes refrigerated cinnamon rolls (8 cinnamon rolls each; 351 grams or 12 oz total)

Custard Mixture

  • ¼ cup salted butter (melted)
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup pure maple syrup
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and lightly spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray. Pour in melted butter or alternatively place a stick of butter in the baking dish and allow it to melt in the oven.
  2. Prepare Cinnamon Rolls: Remove the cinnamon rolls from the package, reserving the included frosting for later use.
  3. Cut and Arrange Rolls: Cut the cinnamon rolls into approximately 3/4 inch pieces and evenly place them into the prepared baking dish.
  4. Make Custard: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, pure maple syrup, eggs, vanilla extract, and cinnamon thoroughly ensuring the eggs are fully incorporated.
  5. Pour Custard and Bake: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the cinnamon roll pieces in the baking dish. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes until the casserole is puffed and lightly golden brown on top.
  6. Cool and Frost: Allow the casserole to cool for 10 to 15 minutes before drizzling the reserved cinnamon roll frosting over the top. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use whole milk or half-and-half instead of ½ cup milk.
  • Make sure to whisk the custard thoroughly to avoid any egg clumps and ensure even baking.
  • Letting the casserole rest before adding the frosting helps the custard set and prevents the frosting from melting off immediately.
  • This dish can be prepared the night before by assembling it and refrigerating, then baking in the morning (add 5-10 minutes to bake time if baking cold).
  • Use pure maple syrup for the best flavor instead of flavored syrups or honey.
