Ingredients
Scale
Beef and Coating
- 500g beef strips (thinly sliced)
- 3 tablespoons cornflour
- Vegetable oil (for frying, about 4 tablespoons total)
Sauce and Aromatics
- 1 small red chili, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
- 4 spring onions, sliced (separate white and green parts)
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
Garnish
- Fresh coriander, chopped
- Sesame seeds
Instructions
- Coat the beef: Toss the thinly sliced beef strips with cornflour in a bowl, ensuring every piece is evenly coated. Set aside to allow the coating to adhere properly.
- Fry the beef: Heat a generous amount of vegetable oil in a wok or large frying pan over medium-high heat. Fry the beef in batches to avoid overcrowding, cooking each batch for about 3-4 minutes until golden and crispy. Remove cooked beef with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Sauté aromatics: Pour off excess oil from the pan, leaving about 2 tablespoons. Return the pan to medium-high heat and add the white parts of the spring onions, minced garlic, minced ginger, and finely chopped red chili. Stir-fry briefly for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- Make the sauce: Add soy sauce, sweet chili sauce, honey, rice vinegar, and sesame oil to the pan. Stir well and cook for approximately 2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and becomes glossy.
- Toss beef in sauce: Return the crispy beef strips to the pan and toss thoroughly to coat all pieces evenly with the sticky sweet chili sauce.
- Garnish and serve: Remove from heat, then sprinkle the dish with the green parts of the spring onions, fresh coriander, and sesame seeds. Serve immediately while hot and crispy.
Notes
- For extra heat, add more red chili or a pinch of chili flakes in the sauce.
- Ensure not to overcrowd the pan while frying beef to maintain crispiness.
- Use fresh beef strips or slice your own from a good quality cut for best texture.
- The sauce can be adjusted in sweetness or tang by adding more honey or rice vinegar according to taste.
- Serve with steamed jasmine rice or noodles for a complete meal.
