Ingredients

Scale

Apple Mixture

  • 2 apples, peeled and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Cinnamon Sugar Mixture

  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Batter

  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk or almond milk

Glaze

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 to 3 tablespoons milk or cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Make Cinnamon Sugar Mixture: In a small bowl, mix 1/3 cup light brown sugar with 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Set this mixture aside to use later for layering and swirling.
  3. Prepare Apples: Toss the peeled, chopped apples with 2 tablespoons granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon in another bowl. Set this apple mixture aside to infuse flavors.
  4. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a medium bowl, cream together 2/3 cup granulated sugar and softened butter until smooth and fluffy, ensuring your bread will have a tender crumb.
  5. Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, making sure each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the vanilla extract for added flavor.
  6. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and baking powder to evenly distribute the leavening agent.
  7. Mix Batter: Gradually add the flour mixture to the creamed butter mixture, alternating with milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined to avoid overmixing and tough bread.
  8. Layer Batter and Apples: Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Spread half of the apple mixture evenly over the batter, then sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture on top.
  9. Add Remaining Layers: Pour the remaining batter over the apple layer, then top with the remaining apples and sprinkle with the rest of the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  10. Swirl and Press: Press the apples lightly into the batter and use a knife to swirl the cinnamon sugar mixture throughout the top layer for a marbled effect.
  11. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 60 to 70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, indicating the bread is fully baked.
  12. Cool: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 15 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before glazing.
  13. Prepare and Drizzle Glaze: Mix the powdered sugar with 1 to 3 tablespoons of milk or cream until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bread to add a sweet finishing touch.

Notes

  • You can substitute almond milk with any other milk of your choice or keep it dairy-free if preferred.
  • Make sure not to overmix the batter as it can lead to a dense bread.
  • Pear or other firm fruits can be used instead of apples for variation.
  • The glaze consistency can be adjusted by adding more or less milk or cream depending on preference.
  • Store the bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
