Ingredients
Scale
Apple Mixture
- 2 apples, peeled and chopped
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Cinnamon Sugar Mixture
- 1/3 cup light brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Batter
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 cup milk or almond milk
Glaze
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 to 3 tablespoons milk or cream
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Make Cinnamon Sugar Mixture: In a small bowl, mix 1/3 cup light brown sugar with 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Set this mixture aside to use later for layering and swirling.
- Prepare Apples: Toss the peeled, chopped apples with 2 tablespoons granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon in another bowl. Set this apple mixture aside to infuse flavors.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a medium bowl, cream together 2/3 cup granulated sugar and softened butter until smooth and fluffy, ensuring your bread will have a tender crumb.
- Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, making sure each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the vanilla extract for added flavor.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and baking powder to evenly distribute the leavening agent.
- Mix Batter: Gradually add the flour mixture to the creamed butter mixture, alternating with milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined to avoid overmixing and tough bread.
- Layer Batter and Apples: Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Spread half of the apple mixture evenly over the batter, then sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture on top.
- Add Remaining Layers: Pour the remaining batter over the apple layer, then top with the remaining apples and sprinkle with the rest of the cinnamon sugar mixture.
- Swirl and Press: Press the apples lightly into the batter and use a knife to swirl the cinnamon sugar mixture throughout the top layer for a marbled effect.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 60 to 70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, indicating the bread is fully baked.
- Cool: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 15 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before glazing.
- Prepare and Drizzle Glaze: Mix the powdered sugar with 1 to 3 tablespoons of milk or cream until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bread to add a sweet finishing touch.
Notes
- You can substitute almond milk with any other milk of your choice or keep it dairy-free if preferred.
- Make sure not to overmix the batter as it can lead to a dense bread.
- Pear or other firm fruits can be used instead of apples for variation.
- The glaze consistency can be adjusted by adding more or less milk or cream depending on preference.
- Store the bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
