Ingredients
Scale
For the Brownies:
- 1 box (18.3 oz) brownie mix
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup water
For the Cheesecake Layer:
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
For Layering:
- 1 jar (12 oz) caramel sauce
- Optional toppings: chopped nuts or chocolate chips
Instructions
- Make the Brownies: Preheat the oven as directed on the brownie mix package. Prepare the brownie batter by combining the brownie mix with vegetable oil, eggs, and water. Pour the batter into a square baking pan and bake until set and a toothpick comes out mostly clean. Allow the brownies to cool completely, then cut into bite-sized cubes.
- Prepare Cheesecake Filling: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with granulated sugar and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy whipping cream together with powdered sugar until soft peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture until fully combined and fluffy.
- Assemble the Trifle: Using a large trifle dish or individual serving glasses, start with a layer of half the brownie cubes. Drizzle caramel sauce over the brownies, then spread half of the cheesecake mixture on top. Repeat the layers using the remaining brownie cubes, caramel sauce, and cheesecake mixture.
- Top and Chill: Finish the trifle with an additional drizzle of caramel sauce and sprinkle optional chopped nuts or chocolate chips on top. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld and the layers to set.
Notes
- You can substitute homemade brownies for boxed mix to elevate the flavor and texture of the dessert.
- If heavy cream is not available, store-bought whipped topping can be used as an alternative in the cheesecake layer.
- Adding crushed graham crackers or pecans can provide extra crunch and enhance the flavor profile.
- If the caramel sauce thickens too much in the refrigerator, let the trifle sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes before serving to soften it.
